INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2020

10 March 2020

AFG College with the University of Aberdeen held its first International Women’s Day Conference on Friday, March 8, 2019 under the theme: “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”. The event which was held at The Sharq Village Spa & Resort was a great success, drawing both men and women from an eclectic mix of professions and backgrounds coming together to celebrate the achievements of women in Qatar.

Our guest speakers comprised professional women working in different positions from a diverse range of sectors including health, ICT, education, banking and privately owned businesses. We, at AFG College with the University of Aberdeen are passionate advocates for promoting the role of women in society at all levels and as our chairperson, Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani recently noted: “I believe that the empowerment of women at all levels in fundamental to a healthy and prosperous nation.”

With the conference drawing praise from delegates and speakers and in the spirit of our continued push in achieving parity between the sexes, we have decided to make the conference an annual event in our academic calendar. Next year’s conference will be held on Sunday 8th March and we are now seeking corporate sponsorship from organisations in Qatar who seek the continued development of women’s rights across Qatari society.
